“Not Me” Monday

We all have those days…or weeks. “Not Me” Monday was created by MckMama to give us an outlet to laugh at our own imperfections. Will you join me? When you are done here, you can head over to her blog and read about what everyone else has “not” been doing.

I am very thorough when I cook, so I never leave out ingredients and my recipes never flop….especially when there are only four ingredients. I mean seriously, who would forget to put in one of only four ingredients?? Therefore it was not me who tried to make German Pancake this week, mixed the eggs, milk, and salt, but completely forgot to put in the flour. Nope, not me.

flop

And it was not me that, for the third time, hid something in the oven, forgot about it, and melted it when the oven was preheating. My son is not traumatized by said experiences, beginning with the time that I melted his tractors in the oven.

I did not recently have this conversation with my 4yo son in my hopeless attempt to break him of the southern accent he appears to be developing.

“Mommy, can I help ya?”

“May I help you.”

“Mommy, can I help ya?”

“May I help you.”

“But I want to say ‘ya’!”

“No Samuel, you need to say ‘you’.”

“But why? Can I please say ‘ya’?”

My husband and I did not remove a huge stack of unfiled papers from our file cabinet and plop them on the floor in an attempt to motivate ourselves to do the necessary filing. We would never create a mess in attempt to motivate ourselves. That would be wholly unproductive. And after two weeks of the mess of papers on the floor, I did not finally stuff them back into the “to be filed” section of the filing cabinet. Nope, not me!

paperwork

And last, but not least, on my scrapbooking-girls’-weekend-away, you could not have found us carrying card tables into our very nice hotel. That would just be weird!

jacketsI am very practical, so it couldn’t have been me who made the decision to not purchase winter coats for my kids this year. While they have nice jackets, I did not decide that our southern winters were not long enough for me to justify buying winter coats. Therefore, it couldn’t have been me who had to layer jackets on my son in order to keep him warm at the park. Not me.

While in an office supply store this week, Samuel (4yo) did not come to us saying he thought maybe he had to go to the bathroom while curiously holding out his finger. Upon closer examination, I did not discover to my horror that there was a small amount of poo on his extended finger. After my husband and I gathered ourselves, Scott turned with Samuel to head towards the bathroom. As I followed behind them, I did not look down to see my son’s bare bottom completely exposed for the whole store to see. Nor did I know how long it had been like that. My children have a very clear understanding of what is proper, so that could never have been me. Nope.

img_1166And do you see this photoshoot? Can you guess where I took the pictures? Because I most certainly did not put Kaelynn fully dressed into an empty bathtub. That would just be odd and I would never go to such random lengths to take pictures where there is good lighting. Not me!

I did not discover this week that Kaelynn has a stash of hidden pacifiers wedged between the side of her crib and the mattress. My sweet baby is not cunning enough to stash them away where she can reach them when she is out of her crib (when she is not usually allowed to have them).

It was not me that left a dirty crockpot on the counter for three days. I never avoid unpleasant work, and besides, that’s just gross. I would at least get it cleaned before we finished the leftovers.

And it certainly wasn’t me that got into a vicious cycle with the laundry. I would never procrastinate folding laundry until I needed to reuse the baskets several days later for washing new loads. I would never let my family get dressed out of a pile of laundry on the floor…day after day.

I am always diligent with my chores.

It was not me that admitted last winter that I did not like any of my winter shoes and boldly threw them all out….without purchasing new ones. So it is most certainly not me that has nothing but jogging shoes and sandals to wear in the dead of winter. I would never be so crazy as to wear sandals when it is 20 degrees out. Nope, not me.

When I heard Samuel urgently call up the stairs simply to state that his nose was running, I did not respond with irritation and tell him just go get a tissue. When he continued to protest and become more urgent, I did not remain irritated…until he finally told me that there was blood. I never have humbling mothering moments.

And I never double work for myself. Therefore, it wasn’t me that, while making digital photo books for grandparents’ Christmas gifts, started the project with one company and then switched companies when I thought I had found a better deal. And it certainly wasn’t me who later had to go back to the original company when I discovered that they, in fact, had the better price.

Then last, but not least, my kids always smile happily when I take their picture.

My husband and I did not make up a batch of brownie mix with the sole intent of eating the batter straight out of the bowl. We always eat properly.

My son knows that you should always pee in the toilet, so it was not me that overheard (too late) my son educating his cousin on the ins-and-outs of peeing in the yard. My son is always the one setting a good example.

And I did not allow the kids to pull out all of our DVDs to keep them occupied while I got something done. My kids do not stay occupied longer with non-toy forms of entertainment.

It was not me this week that took my kids for a doughnut treat before church on Sunday. If it had been me, I wouldn’t have fallen for the cute pumpkin doughnut, complete with cute little eyes, nose, and mouth. I would definitely have realized then and there that even the smallest amount of black icing is a very bad idea. Especially when combined with kids in church clothes. So, I did not turn around in the car to see Samuel like this….

blackicing

I did not then proceed to bathe my child with diaper wipes. Nope, not me.

It was not me that found my sweet, adorable daughter this week walking across the yard, proudly carrying dog poo in her hand. We don’t even have a dog, so that couldn’t have been me.

cakeI am most certainly not a perfectionist, so it wasn’t me that bought a cake mix and tub of icing to make a birthday cake for my husband, only to open the icing and decide that I couldn’t bring myself to not use homemade. I would never be that particular.

It was not me this week that, while out shopping, stopped to take Kaelynn out of her stroller only to find an unpaid-for bracelet in her seat. And if it was me, then it would have most definitely been the first time something like that had happened.

And it was not me that didn’t do a lick of school with Samuel last week, despite my great aspirations. I am always consistent and diligent.

img_5181I am always fabulous about remembering to bring essential items. Things like diapers and camera memory cards. So it couldn’t have been me that left with the family for a day at a local pumpkin patch and farm without the diaper bag or a single backup diaper or me that packed the camera without a memory card inside. Nope! Not me!

My kids are always appropriately dressed. So it was not me that left my children in the same pairs of pajamas for 48 hours. I would never do that.

And it was not me that sat my baby in the bathrooms sink for her first haircut. How weird would that be?

First of all, it was not me that embarrassed my husband last week with my “Not Me Monday” post about the breast pump in our kitchen cabinet. I’m always a very discreet person.

I am also always very prepared. Especially when the necessary preparation is obvious. It was not me, then, that packed up my family for a day of outdoor community service on a very rainy day without a single hat, jacket or article of clothing that would protect us from becoming drenched. Not me.

I am known as being a very decisive shopper, as I also mentioned last week. Therefore, it was not me that spent an hour in Victoria’s Secret this week simply try to assemble a mix-and-match panties purchase. You either like something or you don’t. So that would be ridiculous.

Above all, I always learn from my mistakes. So it could not have been me that preheated the oven with a brownie pan (with half-eaten contents and a plastic lid) inside. After my horrible experience of melting my son’s tractors in the oven, I would never again think about using the oven as temporary storage. And it wasn’t my empathetic son that tried to offer comfort throughout the day by saying, “Mommy, I’m so sorry that you melted your lid in the oven. I know it is so sad.”
